Feedback

Overall the rough cut of my video has had positive feedback from my classmates. However when my teacher viewed it she worried that the shots weren't keeping up with the beat of the song, especially during 2.34 - 2.55, I edited the shots so that they would change after the verse "I wake up screaming you name". The shots now change every 1.3 seconds to match the drum beat.

AMV's

AMV's are another way of promoting songs. Though this is only used on youtube, using footage from anime's, films, tv shows etc and editing them to fit the song has proved popular to their target audience.

A personal favourite AMV is based around a character from an anime-

Because of this, when I hear this song I usually associate it with the anime used in the footage.

Songs used within films have made an appearance by fans in the amv world also.

Test Shots

This shot was eventually used but a much better version has been used for the final product.

In the end this shot wasn't used in the video, whilst this was a good idea to portray the boyfriend remembering her, I decided to use a shot where he's looking at pictures rather than her profile page.

Sadly this shot wasn't used. I really hoped to edit it in time with the song but it was difficult to edit so all the words could be seen but so that it wouldn't mess up the timing.

I only used part of this clip for the lipsyncing because Sam looked at the camera whilst I was filming.

Marketing

Music Videos are a very popular way of promoting new songs and to allow the artist to portray what their song is about. Music videos are also a form of entertainment, having a narrative within the song helps to keep the audience entertained but some video's seem to make no sense at all. Rather than having a narrative, they simply make a humourous video.

Songs also help to promote new films. An example of this is Linkin Parks 2009 song 'New Divide' to promote Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. This was directed by Joe Hahn.

The surreal effects in the video fit with the sci-fi genre of the film and is very entertaining to watch.

Rock Music is often associated with action films, a good example would be the trailer for Clash of the Titans, in the background, The Used is playing in the background with The Bird and the Worm:

However, the lyrics are taken out and only music is used.

Band Members

The band members I'm using for the photos and music footage will be-

Sam Purse - Vocals/Lead Guitar
Becca Carter - Guitar
Sam Lane - Base Guitar
Stewart Boyd - Drums

I chose them because they have an indie look and style to them, however, finding time to get the footage and photos will be hard because we all have different time tables during school.

The album cover will either be a photo of the band or my idea to burn lots of paper and try to spell out the name 'Ashes' in the ashes of the paper or spell out the name with the burnt paper itself.

Another idea is to get Stewart, Sam, Becca and Sam together in a photo booth and use the picture stye from that for album cover. I can either put the photos on a table for a simple background, or, place it on the burnt paper remains.
