Song: Main Street
Outline of Ideas
The song I've chosen is called Main Street. The lyrics suggest that a couple are happy together but the girlfriend suddenly leaves (and possibly breaks up with) her boyfriend and lives somewhere else, however, he still loves her and is missing her a lot. The lyrics also suggest that the last time he saw her was on 'main street'
The idea I have gathered from this is that the filming will be focused on the boyfriend reminising his time with her and I'll also show some clips of the girlfriend. The clips of the girlfriend will show when the verse:
"I hope the wind blows through your hair
I hope you’re happy over there
I hope the sun sparkles on your skin
I hope you found beauty within"
I'm also debating on whether to bring the girlfriend back at the end of the song but rather than having them make up straight away, I plan to show the girlfriend turning up at the boyfriends house and he just stands there and the video will end there, leaving the audience wondering if they will get back together or not.
What resources will you need?
The actors in the video will be my friends Victoria and Craig as the couple.
For the lip syincing I hope to record our friends miming to the song. The props will be a simple camcorder and possible a tri-pod if needed. Mobile phones will be used aswell for scenes when the boyfriend could be sending the girlfriend messages that he misses her.
The setting will mostly be on a main road so it fits with the title of the song. I'll also be filming in the park and inside either Victorias or Craigs house when the line "I wake up screaming your name" plays.
Justification of ideas in relation to genre and artist
Whilst searching for an artist, I specifically was aiming for an indie band. They are known for their cheerful music and had we'd been able to make a video for a signed artist, it would be easy to create. The song I've chosen has a typical upbeat indie rock genre, though the theme for the song is about a breakup and the girl disappearing, the beat of the song has the classic tone for an indie band.
